VOCAB NOTES:
READ SENTENCE SLOWLY
- Get an intuition whether the blanks should be positive or negative (with reference to the conjunctions)
- Find key words or adjectives that describe a certain situation (usually just an antonym or synonym relationship to those terms)
- Try filling in the blank first before looking at the answers
- Don't get too focused on the story of the sentences themselves. Just find the general relationship between terms.
- Don't trust your guts too much on the terms because they're most likely wrong ⇒ your answers should be FULLY DEPENDENT on the key terms provided in the text
READING NOTES:
READ AS IF YOU'RE ONLY READING IT ONCE
- Be careful with what the verbs used in the answer refer to (what is the subject?)
- When asked about assumptions, try to organize as follows, and cross out anything that goes against the simplified assumption (REMEMBER: passage could talk about A, B and then introduce C in the second paragraph ⇒ e.g. A —> B but in reality, A—>C)
- A —> B (A causes B)
- A^ → B^ (A increase means B increase)
- In general, just be careful with each of the transitional words. However could not mean a direct dismissal of previous sentence (it could be partial).
- Avoid choosing answers with ABSOLUTE adjectives (NEVER, STRICTLY, ALWAYS, ONLY)
